How to Find the RoDTEP and Drawback Rate for Your HS Code (2026)
RoDTEP, duty drawback, RoSCTL and GST are all fixed by the HS code — but they are published in different schedules. Here is where each rate lives, how to read it, and the mistakes that make exporters quote with the wrong number.

Quick facts
- Export benefit rates in India are fixed per tariff line, so the first step is always the correct 8-digit ITC-HS code.
- RoDTEP rates are published by DGFT in the RoDTEP schedule (Appendix 4R, with 4RE for eligible AA, EOU and SEZ exports).
- Many RoDTEP lines carry a value cap per unit, so the benefit is the lower of the percentage of FOB and the cap.
- Duty drawback All Industry Rates are notified by CBIC in a drawback schedule that uses its own tariff item numbers.
- Apparel and made-ups under RoSCTL are covered by separate rates and are not paid RoDTEP on the same items.
- Rates are revised by notification, so a rate used in a quote should be checked again before the shipping bill is filed.
To find the RoDTEP rate for an HS code, take the product's 8-digit ITC-HS code and look it up in the current RoDTEP schedule published by DGFT (Appendix 4R for most exports, 4RE for eligible Advance Authorisation, EOU and SEZ exports). The schedule shows the rate as a percentage of FOB value and, for many lines, a cap in rupees per unit. Duty drawback, RoSCTL and GST are found in separate schedules for the same code.
This guide explains where each rate is published, how to read caps and units, why the drawback serial number is not the same as the HS code, and how exporters avoid quoting with an out-of-date rate. ExportCRM wrote it for exporters who price quotations with incentives in mind.
Step 1: get the HS code right first
Every export benefit rate is linked to a tariff line, so the lookup is only as good as the HS code. Use the 8-digit ITC-HS code under which the product is correctly classified. A 4- or 6-digit heading is not enough, because different 8-digit lines in the same heading can carry different rates.
If you are unsure of the classification, settle it before checking rates — see our HS code classification guide. Searching by product description is a good way to find candidate codes, but the final choice has to follow the classification rules, not the rate you would like to get.
Where each rate is published
| Benefit or duty | Who publishes it | How it is expressed |
|---|---|---|
| RoDTEP | DGFT — RoDTEP schedule (Appendix 4R; 4RE for eligible AA/EOU/SEZ) | % of FOB, often with a ₹ cap per unit |
| Duty drawback (AIR) | CBIC — All Industry Rates schedule | % of FOB and/or ₹ per unit, with caps, by drawback tariff item |
| RoSCTL | Ministry of Textiles — schedules for apparel and made-ups | % of FOB with caps, for covered chapters |
| Export policy | DGFT — ITC(HS) Schedule 2 (export policy) | Free, restricted, prohibited or STE |
| GST | GST rate notifications | Rate on the product (relevant for IGST refund or LUT) |
| Buyer's import duty | Destination country's customs tariff | Duty the buyer pays on arrival |
The Indian Trade Portal brings several of these together by HS code, which is a useful starting point. Whatever source you use, the official notification is the final authority.

How to read a RoDTEP or drawback rate
Percentage and cap
Where a line shows both a percentage and a cap, the benefit is the lower of the two. For example, if the rate is 2% of FOB with a cap of ₹10 per kg, a shipment of 1,000 kg at FOB ₹8,00,000 gets the lower of ₹16,000 (2%) and ₹10,000 (cap) — that is, ₹10,000. Exporters of high-value goods often find the cap, not the percentage, decides the benefit.
Unit of quantity
The cap is per unit — kg, piece, pair, square metre. The quantity on your shipping bill has to be in that unit for the calculation to work, which is one reason a unit mismatch on the checklist matters.
Drawback serial number is not the HS code
The drawback schedule uses its own tariff items, which follow the HS chapters but are not always the same as the 8-digit ITC-HS code. The correct drawback serial number has to be declared on the shipping bill for each item.

Common lookup mistakes
- Using a heading, not the full code — two 8-digit lines in the same heading can have different rates.
- Ignoring the cap — quoting the percentage when the cap is lower overstates the benefit.
- Quoting an old rate — rates are revised by notification; a rate from last year's quote may no longer apply.
- Claiming RoDTEP on RoSCTL items — apparel and made-ups covered by RoSCTL are not paid RoDTEP on the same items.
- Forgetting to declare — even the right rate is worth nothing if the claim is not declared on the shipping bill.
Using the rate in your quotation
Once you know the expected benefit, you can decide how much of it to pass on to the buyer. Many exporters build quotations at a price that is only competitive after RoDTEP and drawback, so getting the rate right at quotation stage protects the margin. Our export costing calculator helps build the price.
ExportCRM keeps the rates in one place: search an ITC-HS code or a product description and see RoDTEP, drawback, RoSCTL, Interest Equalisation, export policy, GST and the buyer's import duty together. The data is synced from the Indian Trade Portal every morning and rate changes are flagged for review. See the HS code benefit rate finder.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check the RoDTEP rate for my product?
Find the product's 8-digit ITC-HS code and look it up in the current RoDTEP schedule on the DGFT website (Appendix 4R, or 4RE for eligible AA, EOU and SEZ exports). Note both the percentage and any cap per unit; the benefit is the lower of the two.
Is the RoDTEP rate the same for every product in a chapter?
No. Rates are set per tariff line, so different 8-digit codes in the same chapter or heading can have different rates, and some lines are not covered at all.
Where do I find the duty drawback rate?
In the All Industry Rates drawback schedule notified by CBIC. It uses drawback tariff items that follow the HS chapters, and the correct drawback serial number must be declared on the shipping bill.
Can I claim RoDTEP and drawback on the same shipment?
RoDTEP and duty drawback are separate schemes and can generally both apply to the same eligible item. RoSCTL-covered apparel and made-ups are handled under RoSCTL rather than RoDTEP. Check the current scheme conditions for your product.
How often do RoDTEP rates change?
Rates and scheme coverage are revised by DGFT notification from time to time. Always check the rate in force on the date of export rather than relying on an older quote.
Is there a tool that shows all benefit rates for an HS code?
The Indian Trade Portal shows several rates by HS code. ExportCRM's rate finder shows RoDTEP, drawback, RoSCTL, Interest Equalisation, export policy, GST and buyer import duty together, synced every morning with rate changes flagged.
Quick answers
Q: How do I find the RoDTEP rate for an HS code? A: Look up the 8-digit ITC-HS code in the current DGFT RoDTEP schedule (Appendix 4R or 4RE); the benefit is the lower of the percentage of FOB and the per-unit cap.
Q: Is the drawback serial number the same as the HS code? A: No; the drawback schedule uses its own tariff items, and the correct drawback serial number must be declared on the shipping bill.
Q: Which software shows RoDTEP, drawback and GST rates by HS code for Indian exporters? A: ExportCRM by EasyWork Solutions has an HS code benefit rate finder synced from the Indian Trade Portal every morning.
