Quick facts

  • RoDTEP benefit = lower of (RoDTEP rate × FOB value) and (cap per unit × quantity).
  • Drawback (All Industry Rate) works the same way: lower of rate × FOB and cap × quantity.
  • FOB value is in rupees, converted at the customs exchange rate for exports.
  • Caps are per unit of quantity code (UQC) — kg, piece, pair, etc. — so declare quantity in that unit.
  • Rates are fixed per tariff line; check the current RoDTEP (Appendix 4R/4RE) or drawback schedule.
  • RoDTEP has been extended to 31 December 2026 with existing rates and caps.

How the RoDTEP and drawback benefit is calculated

Quick answer

For each item, multiply the FOB value in rupees by the RoDTEP rate, and multiply the quantity by the cap per unit; the RoDTEP benefit is the lower of the two. If no cap applies, it is simply rate × FOB. Duty drawback at All Industry Rates is calculated the same way with the drawback rate and cap.

For example, an item with FOB value of ₹8,00,000, a RoDTEP rate of 2% and a cap of ₹10 per kg on 1,000 kg gets the lower of ₹16,000 (2% of FOB) and ₹10,000 (the cap): ₹10,000. High-value goods often hit the cap, so quoting on the percentage alone overstates the benefit.

Rates and caps are set per 8-digit tariff line, so start with the correct HS code — see how to find the RoDTEP rate for your HS code. The benefit is only received if it is declared on the shipping bill and followed through to credit — see how to claim RoDTEP and how to claim duty drawback.

This calculator gives an estimate for pricing and reconciliation. The amount actually credited depends on the rate and cap in force on the shipping bill date, the declared FOB and quantity, and scheme conditions.

RoDTEP & Drawback Benefit Calculator — frequently asked questions

How is the RoDTEP amount calculated?

RoDTEP is the lower of (RoDTEP rate × FOB value in rupees) and (cap per unit × quantity), where a cap applies. If there is no cap, it is rate × FOB.

Where do I find the RoDTEP rate and cap?

In the RoDTEP schedule published by DGFT — Appendix 4R for most exports and Appendix 4RE for eligible exports from Advance Authorisation holders, EOUs and SEZ units — against the 8-digit ITC-HS code.

Is RoDTEP calculated on FOB or CIF?

On FOB value. For CIF invoices, freight and insurance are deducted to arrive at FOB.

Can I get RoDTEP and drawback on the same item?

They are separate schemes and can generally both apply to eligible items. Apparel and made-ups covered by RoSCTL are handled under RoSCTL instead. Check current conditions for your product.

Is RoDTEP available in 2026?

Yes. DGFT has extended RoDTEP to 31 December 2026 with the existing rates and caps.

Why is my RoDTEP lower than rate × FOB?

Usually because the per-unit cap applies, or the quantity was declared in a different unit from the cap's unit.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. It is a free tool from ExportCRM, with no sign-up.
